We recently had Habitat Hardwood Flooring refinish and install floors in five rooms of our home, and I cannot say enough good things about the experience. The owner, Derek, and his team were extremely professional from start to finish. Their pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the level of care they took to protect our home during the project. They carefully sealed off rooms that were not being worked on with plastic and used cardboard walking strips to protect our existing hardwood floors. That level of attention to detail really stood out. One of the most impressive parts of the job was how well they matched the new flooring to the existing hardwoods—it looks seamless. The final result exceeded our expectations. Even more impressive, the entire project was completed in less than 10 days, and that included five rooms. Since we don’t live in town full-time, the entire project was coordinated remotely by phone. Derek was very communicative throughout the process, which made everything easy and stress-free. I found Derek and Habitat Flooring just by doing a Google search. We have vacation home with hardwood in the upstairs LR, kitchen, and hallway. We had old, worn carpet in the upstairs BR, and thought the best choice if not putting in new carpet would be to continue with matching hardwood. Even though I'm a chronic "Do it Yourselfer" and perfectionist, and we had just finished DIY installation of LPV flooring in the downstairs BRs, we thought it best to check with a professional on this one. When I cold-called Habitat and spoke with Derek, I immediately felt comfortable. He was articulate, friendly, and you could tell that he cared about and took pride in his work. Then I threw him a curveball and told him that when we sanded and refinished the other hardwood floors 13 years ago (yes, a DIY project), we did not apply stain and polyurethane, but used a low VOC product called Pallmann Magic Oil, so that was what we were trying to match to. Who would have believed when Derek then said "I used to work for Pallmann!" The room lit up and I heard the angels singing from above! At that point, we were sold. The project was handled remotely, so we didn't get to see any of the work in progress, which normally would make me very nervous. But Derek kept us updated and sent photos, and was always responsive. He was even able to locate and procure the now discontinued oil color that we had originally used on the floors in the rest of the house. The work was done on shedule, and it turned out beautiful. My wife said "I didn't expect it to look this good!" Derek had said up front that some touch up to the walls might be needed due to having to remove and reapply baseboards, but it was obvious that he took great care in that because that was minimal. I would absolutely recommend Derek and Habitat without reservation. Just a pleasure to deal with, and a true crafstman. How nice it was to go and see the finished product and have it exceed our expectations. That can be a rare thing down there. We really thought that we might be better off just replacing the floors because they were so worn. Dexter said he could make them look brand new and after a lot of hard work he did. The workmanship is top-notch and he goes all the way to the edges and the place looks brand new. Great work! We had a difficult remodel that required extensive subfloor preparation and research concerning proper installation and adhesion of dissimilar materials. I approached many- but only found one competent and willing to tackle the job. Scheduling, communication and quality of work were all excellent.
